So I am going to Thailand for 3 months and would like to know how much money to bring. Accommodations: I am a recent college graduate so I am used to living in non-air-conditioned dorms. That being said I can definitely deal with concrete walled fan rooms. My only stipulation is I don't want to stay in dorm style buildings. Meaning I don't want to share bunk-beds or a room with 10 other 20 somethings. I did it in Spain and nothing is more annoying than dealing with drunk frat boys and their skanks. I'm going to need a home base I can call my own. On the other side Staying in a fan room for 2 months could get old so throw in some cheap AC rooms when needed and thats all I need. Travel: Lots of it. I'm spending two weeks in Bangkok then two weeks in Pattaya then heading off to the Islands. Probably hoping between 3-4 Islands, then moving to the Andaman Sea to island hop for awhile then back to Bangkok to fly home. I don't have a set plan yet (trying to see how much money traveling will cost first). But lets say I want to have enough to travel where I want to go. No or I can't aren't things I'm willing to say on this trip. Shopping: I have friends and family at home that I'm going to be away from over Christmas and Birthdays. They all want gifts so I want to send them some things home. I know posting something can get expensive so factor that in. Other than that I love Thai culture and want to get some things for myself. Again I won't be visiting the markets every day but over the months I figure I'll run into some things I would want to get. Food: Not picky but over two months I'm going to have to vary myself from the street stalls sometimes. How much for 1-2 meals a day + water bottles and such? Partying: I like it. I like to drink and go out. I like girls and I like meeting people and being social. I don't intend to get drunk every night but I can't visit Pattaya and Bangkok and not get my drink on sometimes. So how much should I factor in to not have to strict a budget that if some new found friends go on a week long bender I can join. Extras: Again, this is a gift to myself before grad school, so I'm going to want to do some things for me. Massages, muy thai classes, and tattoos. On-top of whatever else I stumble upon. All that being said, I am going to be on a budget. So I realize that I can't be eating at grand places, going out shopping for hours on end, getting a massage, going out to bars, then hoping on a train to another place every day. I am willing to skimp and "backpack", but I don't want to hate my trip. I'm going to be in grad/medical school for the next 6 years of my life, so this is kinda my last gift to myself, before all of that. Travel while you're young and all that. So just factor in that I am a young guy on a budget that wants to have a good time, and a great experience, but is also not picky and has spent enough nights sleeping on streets and making month long trips staying in my two door car, to be able to rough it. Thank you for any and all help.... Read More »
